FREETOWN — Miss World Sierra Leone 2026, Mariyam Lorba Konneh, has returned home to a celebratory welcome following her representation of Sierra Leone at the Miss World competition in Vietnam.
Speaking to the media at Lungi International Airport upon her arrival, the beauty queen expressed deep gratitude to Sierra Leoneans at home and in the diaspora for the overwhelming support she received throughout her journey.
“Carrying Our Dreams with Pride”
Reflecting on her time at the international pageant, Mariyam said she was pleased with her overall performance on the global stage.
She shared that despite coming from a very religious household, her parents fully understood her ambitions and backed her completely. Emphasizing the impact of that encouragement, she urged parents across the country to stand behind their children and support their dreams.
“Representing Sierra Leone at Miss World was one of the greatest honours of my life. I carried the dreams, hopes, and spirit of our people with pride. I am grateful for the love and support I received from Sierra Leoneans everywhere,” she said.
Hero’s Welcome in Aberdeen
Following her arrival at Lungi, Mariyam was received by government officials, family members, beauty and fashion industry stakeholders, media personalities, and supporters at the Sea Coach Terminal in Aberdeen.
Focus for Her Reign
Her return marks the beginning of a new phase of her reign. Mariyam plans to use the global exposure, networks, and insights gained in Vietnam to drive community development across Sierra Leone.
Her key areas of focus include:
- Youth & Education: Championing girls’ education, youth empowerment, and practical skills development.
- Social Impact: Tackling poverty, combating drug addiction, and raising awareness for mental health and wellbeing.
- National Representation: Promoting Sierra Leone’s tourism sector, cultural heritage, and charitable community outreach.
National Commendation
Stakeholders and tourism officials commended Mariyam for representing the nation with dignity, grace, and confidence. They noted that international platforms like Miss World help showcase Sierra Leone’s rich culture and talent to a global audience.
Her participation was facilitated by the Miss World Organisation and the Miss Sierra Leone Limited Board — led by Chairman Dr. Adonis Abboud — in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
